Entry Description

Hunger is one of the biggest global challenges that we are facing today. According to United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, it is estimated that 1 out of 9 people or about 795 million people of the 7.3 billion people in the world were suffering from chronic undernourishment in 2014 to 2016. With my team of journalists, we went to a small barangay located in Lucena City, Quezon Province, Philippines. There we met a thirteen-year old boy who became too weak to support his own body, let alone stand. Due to lack of proper nutrition and his body’s inability to absorb essential nutrients, the child can only watch from his window as his peers play and run around without a worry in the world. Without any permanent and sustainable employment, his family could not provide even their daily basic needs. But somehow, faith in humanity gets restored. A few months after that visit, help came his way. Food, vitamins, medicine, clean drinking water and necessary aid came in from concerned citizens. Gradually, he is now gaining back his health and hopefully a day will come when he will be able to stand on his own feet again.
