Entry Description

Collection of historical buildings and structures that can be found in the Regional town of Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia 1) Old Empire Theatre (911) – The design of the building is art deco in style, reminiscent of the "glory days" of Hollywood with palm trees framing the exterior and two plinth-mounted fish tanks in the metallic gold and bronze of the entry foyer. One of the Empire Theatre's most striking features is the grand proscenium arch. 2) Hotel Norville (1903) designed by James Marks & Sons and described as the first 3-storey building in Toowoomba. The balconies are interesting and guests must have enjoyed seeing passengers arrive and leave from the busy railway station nearby. 3) Building at 26 Russel Street (1892) - Originally built for TJ Keogh, the building at 26 Russell Street was Mr A Gaydon’s saddlery for many years. Note the date 1892 on top of the building. The building was designed by well-respected architect, HWK Martin. Regrettably, he died in Toowoomba in 1897 from typhoid aged just 36 years. 4) Toowoomba Trades Hall (est. 1934) – The Toowoomba Trades Hall is important in demonstrating the development of trade unionism, a movement that has made an influential contribution to the development of Queensland. 5) Masonic Hall Toowoomba (est.1886) - Constructed in 1886 and houses among others, Southern Cross Lodge No. 18

About Photographer

A CPA by profession, Edwin is currently working in one large mutual bank in Australia as Internal Auditor. He is a self-taught photographer based in Queensland, Australia and only discovered his interest in photography in 2015 (two years ago) when he bought his first DLSR (Nikon D750). Everything started as a simple hobby, taking snapshots of the streets in Singapore using his mobile phone and then posting it in social media. It eventually turned into passion and obsession, to capture and create amazing images. To him, photography is a form of meditation and anti-stress reliever, where he tends to forget the life's toughest challenges and problems while shooting. His passion is on landscapes/ seascapes, nature, cityscapes and astrophotography. When not taking photographs, he is busy watching DOTA 2 online games, studying for his CA exams, and/or watching NBA games. List of awards since joining competition in 2016 1.
